On the So-Called ‘Russian World’ Heresy

Ever since 2022 Patriarch Kyrill of Moscow has been accused of ‘heresy’ on account of his belief in the ‘Russian World’ ideology. Those who have accused him of this all hate Russia. The ‘Russian World’ ideology which he, like others in Russia, believe in, is simply Russian nationalism. This ideology is parallel to ‘Hellenism’, which is the ideology of Greek nationalism, practised widely among Greek Orthodox, not least among Greeks in the USA. If Russians are heretics because of nationalism, then so are the Greeks. Indeed, all others too are guilty of nationalism, not least Americans. And yet the ‘American world’ ideology, masked by the name of ‘Globalism’, is not condemned as a ‘heresy’. Why the double standards?

As soon as we mention ‘double standards’, we always know that politics are involved. The accusation that someone else’s nationalism is a ‘heresy’ is just like the accusation that ‘Sergianism’ (the compromising co-operation by some bishops with the anti-Christian Soviet State) was also a ‘heresy’. That and the accusation that the Russian Church was ‘graceless’ were anti-Soviet smears invented by the CIA. And that is the case here with the declaration that the ‘Russian world’ ideology is a ‘heresy’. A heresy means renouncing that God is the Holy Trinity, or not recognising Christ as the Incarnate Son of God. We do not accuse of heresy those who commit sins or make mistakes. Such accusations are just politics.

Vulgar nationalism – a heresy?! I have not found such political accusations anywhere among the Church Fathers or at Church Councils. True, ‘phyletism’, which is simply the Greek word for racism, was condemned by some Greek bishops in the century before last. However, those who condemned it were all Greeks, who were complaining that Bulgarians wanted freedom from Greek racism! It was just another piece of hypocritical politics. Does this mean that we are in favour of Russian nationalism, of the ‘Russian world’ ideology? Of course not. We are not in favour of any Russian or Greek or other world, we are in favour only of the ‘Christian world’. We cannot be anything else. This is our world and no other is.

Apart from making the ‘Russian world’ ideology and ‘Sergianism’ into heresies, another CIA political ploy has been to get Orthodox bishops close to the US State and its American world ideology to issue appeals to Russia to withdraw its forces from the Ukraine. This one-sided absurdity is apparent to all. If Russian must withdraw its forces, so also must the USA, as the CIA has controlled the Ukraine ever since its ‘regime-change’ coup in 2014, which cost the USA $5 billion. Let the Ukraine become an independent, sovereign nation. Free of Russia, free of the USA, of the CIA and their EU and NATO proxies. That would be ideal. The model here would be like Slovakia, though the latter has not yet freed itself of the EU and NATO.

In this matter we should be aware of the political stance of the ‘Neo-Vlasovtsy’. (Vlasovtsy were Soviet soldiers, who from 1942 on changed sides and fought for Hitler). Sadly, some figures in the contemporary New York Synod, many of whose spiritual ancestors and actual fathers and grandfathers supported or fought for the treacherous Vlasovtsy during the Second World War, are now in turn American Sergianists – supporting the US State and the CIA. Infiltrated by the CIA and its Globalist ideology, they hate the Russian Federation. Here is why those figures have always attacked Russia, using a fictitious communion with the real Russian Church as an excuse to continue and develop their sectarianism.
