Hallowe’en: A Pastoral Message

Tomorrow is the dreaded Hallowe’en. What shall we do? Here is our eight-point plan:

  1. Put up a cross or an icon on the outside of the front door.
  2. Make sure you keep together as a family. If you want, you can invite another family to your house, so the children can be together. Children do not leave the house or go round other people’s houses and do not dress up in scary costumes.
  3. If the children want to dress up in nice costumes, why not?
  4. Make sure you have some sweets and chocolate for the children. Something special and different.
  5. Have a competition for drawings. Suggested slogans:

Christ is Risen! And that is why we do not believe in Hallowe’en.

Today is our Easter in October.

We believe in LIFE, not death!

Death is Dead. Life is for Living.

Or maybe you can find a better slogan.

  1. Hold a talent competition, with singing or dancing or something else the children (or the adults) can do.
  2. Watch some nice film together or listen to some nice music.
  3. The children can stay up later than usual.
